Limited Atonement- Unbiblical
First of all, what is limited atonement? It is the belief that Jesus died for the sins of the people that He picked out to go to heaven, while the rest will go to hell. That is a damnable doctrine, and makes God out to be mean and cruel. Limited atonement is a belief in some Presbyterian churches. I believe that the bible absolutely DOES NOT support that belief at all. There are scriptures that refute that false belief, like John 3:16 for instance, "For God so loved the WORLD, {that's everybody} that he gave is only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER { that's anybody} believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
How about Romans 10:13? "For WHOSOEVER {that's anybody} shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." If God only picked certain ones for heaven, then that would make him a respector of persons when scriptures say that there is no respect of persons with God {Roman 2:11, Colossians 3:25, 1Peter 1:17} The last part of Hebrews 2:9 says that Jesus tasted death for "EVERY MAN". God is "not willing that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance." as 2 Peter 3:9 says. It says in 1 John 2:1,2 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if ANY MAN sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD."
When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming unto him, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the WORLD." {John 1:29} He didn't say that the Lamb of God taketh away the sin of the ones He picked out, but he said "world", and that is everybody. Hell was only prepared for the devil and his angels {Matthew 25:41} If hell was prepared for people as well, then God would have made hell bigger to begin with in order to fit all the people that are going there besides the devil and his angels, but you know what? Isaiah 5:14 says, "Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it." Why would hell have to be enlarged if God already intended for people to go there to begin with?
Jesus said in Matthew 7:14, "Because strait is the gate , and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." Notice Jesus said "few", so if God did pick just certain ones for heaven and the rest He made for hell, then that would mean that He made most of the people for hell and only a few for heaven, which that would make him worse than Hitler or Bin Laden. Why would Jesus say to go into ALL THE WORLD and preach the gospel to EVERY creature {Mark 16:15} if He only intended for a few people to go to heaven and the majority to go to hell? It would be pointless for Him to say that. I think I used enough scripture to prove that the bible does NOT support this false doctrine of limited atonement, and there are many more scriptures that I could have used too. Just because many people are going to hell, does not mean that God made them with the intention of sending them there, for He wants ALL to be saved, but many will go to hell out of their own doing because of disbelief, and stubborness.
